ABOUT THE PRODUCT: Cacao is a nutrient-dense superfood known for its ability to protect the heart and the brain. This cacao comes from a farm in Ecuador that has been cultivating ancestral seeds since 1892 (to read more about what Heirloom means, scroll down). Cacao is considered a sacred offering among many indigenous tribes. Cacao was the first superfood that we ever tried when we first started Radical Broccoli, and we have loved it ever since. NB! If you are sensitive to stimulants of any kind (coffee, green tea, etc.), we recommend you observe how you function with cacao.
KEY BENEFITS: Cacao is found to contain 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries.
Cacao is also loaded with iron and magnesium. Cacao is the highest plant-based source of iron known to man, at 7.3mg per 100g. This compares to beef at 2.5mg, and spinach at 3.6mg.
Raw cacao is also one of the highest plant-based sources of magnesium, the most deficient mineral in the Western world. Magnesium is important for a healthy heart and helps turn glucose into energy enabling your brain to work with clarity and focus. This might just be the reason your body craves chocolate (cacao) when you're pulling an all-nighter! Last but not least, cacao contains more calcium than regular cow's milk. Cacao has 160mg per 100g vs only 125mg per 100ml of milk.
Cacao is also a great source to help combat depression. Cacao is a great source of four scientifically proven bliss chemicals – serotonin, tryptophan, tyrosine, and phenylethylamine. These neurotransmitters are associated with cozy feelings of wellbeing, happiness, and can even alleviate depression.
HOW TO USE: We love making hot chocolate with rose - we add one cup of oat milk, 1 tsp cacao, and 1 tsp rose powder. Generally, you can get creative and add 1 tsp - tbsp to your favorite beverage or dessert including warm milk, chai, smoothies, pancakes, chia puddings, cakes, and more. Allow yourself to listen to your intuition and body when creating your delicious dessert or drink.
HOW ANETTE AND SUSANNE USE IT: Cacao is Susanne's all-time favorite drink in the whole world. She feels energized and abundant and like she's getting a big hug in a mug. She loves to mix it with rose and oat milk. Anette loves getting creative with Cacao, using it in banana bread, homemade chocolate mousse, or sprinkling it on a smoothie bowl. Cacao hits different for everyone, and for Anette who is really sensitive to stimulants, it's energizing and perfect in the morning or before a workout, but not in the evening.

WHAT DOES HEIRLOOM REALLY MEAN?
Heirloom plants are grown from seeds that have been passed down through the generations, typically at least 50 years. (Although, many varieties are actually much older than that.) Heirloom vegetables are also open-pollinated — meaning that pollination happens totally naturally, with no outside assistance. It relies on natural pollination from insects and the wind.
What really draws so many of us to heirloom produce is its flavor; the taste and quality of commercially grown produce don’t even compare to heirloom.
